Maxine & Marilyn

These two quilters made my day yesterday. Look at all the cute crazy quilt blocks they brought into the store! Maxine and Marilyn are members of the Victorian Ladies group of the AAQG and when it was Maxine's turn to choose a theme, she chose 'western'. What a great idea. It made me want to get out the bandana fabric and start sewing.

PKM Dresses

The Pam Kitty Morning fabric has been speaking to me. It's been saying '. . . girls jumpers . . . ruffles . . . scallops . . . ric rac . . . covered buttons . . .' I can't ignore such fabulous fabric so I just had to sew. Here's what I came up with.

Meet the Girls

Hennig House Quilt Shop has some new staff. Think of these girls as our door 'greeters'. Their names are Daisy, Rose and Violet and they're always happy to see you. Their little house makes it's way around the yard and then back again. If you see a bug in the yard, they'd like to know about it.

Cooper's Book

It was a pleasure to meet Beth Nelson yesterday at Hennig House. One of the best things about meeting other quilters/crafters is seeing the projects they're working on. As some of you know, I love quilts that tell a story, so this project of Beth's really caught my eye. She's just putting the finishing touches on a special fabric book for her great grandson, Cooper. The pages are even quilted in interesting designs. What a fabulous Christmas present!

Our First Tutorial

With equipment help from my Uncle Larry--thank you Uncle Larry!-- Mark and I filmed a tutorial for our website.

The tutorial is about wool applique lettering. When we were at the Houston Quilt Festival this Fall, we got so many questions about how I did the lettering on my 'Live Simply' quilt we figured it would be a good subject for our first tutorial.

As soon as we figure out how to do it, we'll post the tutorial on the hennighousequilts.com website. Until then, you can preview it here. . . . Bo insisted on a Cameo appearance. He says to be sure to watch for him!

Opening Day at Hennig House Quilt Shop

Woo Hoo! We are up and running at our little stone house turned quilt store. Mark took the day off work to help out and I couldn't have done it without him. We had just put our temporary sign out by the road and were in the process of telling ourselves that it would be OK if we didn't have but one or two folks pass through during the day when these wonderful quilters from the PFUN Quilt Bee pulled in the drive. They WERE lots of pfun and good sports too. They even let Mark take a photo of my first group of customers! Thanks to all of you.

We also met some great quilters from the Austin Area Quilt Guild and the Chisolm Trail Quilt Guild. Thanks everybody for your support! Mark and I are very excited about our new quilting venture and look forward to serving our local quilters and crafters.

Opening Day

It's Opening Day for Hennig House Quilts. Not sure what to expect, but everything's in it's place. I've not done much advertising, but am hoping that I'll get some good 'word of mouth' advertising--though that may take a few months . . . years even.

Last night I walked by the check out area and saw this . . . . What a fine looking salesdog!

Turns out Bo was helping Mark tidy the computer cords.

Time to Hit the Books

I've been working a bit on the new Hennig House website today. It's going to have some fun bells and whistles, like a slideshow and a great events calendar, but what I REALLY want to add are some video tutorials to the website. It's a cinch to upload video to the website, the only problem is getting quality video to put onto the website . . . so I'm hitting the books tonight to figure out how to do some video editing. Wish me luck.

Mark and I have also been working up at the stone house today. It's really starting to look like a bona fide little quilt store.

Test Drive

Welcome to my new blog. I'm just taking it out now for a little test drive to make sure I understand how to post.

Now that I'll have two websites going--one for my pattern design business (buttonsandbees.com) and one for my quilt shop (hennighousequilts.com), I wanted a new blog that I could link to both sites. . . . so here it is!

It's my early New Year's resolution to be a dedicated blogger, so I hope you'll sign up to receive my posts.
